Educators are responsible for the upbringing, education and care of children and young people in daycare centres, after-school care centres and in the child and youth welfare sector. Your main task as an educator is to support children and young people in developing self-confidence, self-determination and self-realisation. You support children in their individual development and self-education by fostering their talents and reducing disadvantages. In addition to educational partnerships, your responsibilities will also include organisational and business management tasks.
The wide range of activities in crèches, kindergartens, schools, holiday homes, family counselling centres or residential groups for the disabled gives you a variety of job opportunities and good chances to get started.
After successfully completing training as an educator, there are many opportunities for further education and training. In Saxony, educators can shorten their training to become a curative education nurse.
Due to the importance of early childhood education and the expansion of daycare centres, the demand for educators will continue to grow.
Each federal state regulates the specific entry requirements itself. However, the basic requirement in all federal states is an intermediate school leaving certificate (Realschulabschluss) and a vocational qualification. Successful completion of a technical secondary school specialising in health and social services also entitles you to enrol at a technical college specialising in social services and social pedagogy.

Training structure in Leipzig and Torgau
During your training, you will attend theoretical and practical lessons. During the three years of training, you will complete three internships in different socio-educational organisations. The average teaching time is 35 - 40 hours per week. The part-time training programme lasts four years.
Training structure in Munich
The three-year full-time programme is divided into two academic years with internships and a one-year supervised work placement. The four-year part-time programme is divided into three academic years with two days of lessons per week as well as block seminars and a supervised one-year work placement.
