Nursing assistance
Job description
As a nursing assistant, you look after and care for old or sick people or people with disabilities. You support nursing staff in providing professional care, take care of food and are responsible for cleanliness and hygiene. You will also carry out simple doctor's orders and check the pulse, temperature, blood pressure and breathing of those in need of care or accompany them to examinations.

As a nursing assistant, you can enter any profession in the healthcare sector and have good prospects for the future! You will work in hospitals, nursing homes, outpatient care facilities and facilities for people with disabilities.
Admission requirements
To successfully complete the apprenticeship, you should be helpful, reliable and careful. If you enjoy looking after and caring for sick people, the elderly or people with disabilities, then you have the most important qualities for this profession.
Further formal requirements for the apprenticeship are
- Secondary school leaving certificate or equivalent or
- with a secondary school leaving certificate, you can start directly in grade 2 after an aptitude interview at school
- if applicable, an employment contract with a provider of practical vocational training (only for part-time training)
- if applicable, proof of recognition of previous vocational training from the State Office for Schools and Education (only for shortened programmes)
We will be happy to inform you about the possibilities of crediting existing training or partial training and thus shortening the training during a personal interview!
Training structure
The generally two-year training programme is divided into learning fields. During training, blocks of theoretical lessons at school alternate with work placements in hospitals, outpatient care facilities or nursing homes.

After passing the written and practical examination, you can call yourself a"state-certifiednursing assistant".
If your final certificate from the vocational school for nursing assistants has an overall grade point average of at least 3.0, you will be awarded the intermediate school leaving certificate!

Low-skilled employees, unskilled employees and employees in small and medium-sized enterprises can be supported: Your employer must release you from work for the duration of the training programme while continuing to pay your salary.
