FAQ
The Nursing Assistant training programme is a newly regulated nursing profession. From 1 January 2027, it will replace the 27 different nursing aide and nursing assistant training programmes that have existed throughout Germany to date – including the ‘Pflegefachhilfe’ programme in Bavaria. Unlike the previous training programme, it is designed to be generalist (covering all areas of care) and is valid regardless of the federal state. It is therefore recognised everywhere, and you can work anywhere in Germany with this qualification.
The full-time training programme lasts 18 months. It comprises 1,050 hours of theory and 1,280 hours of practical training and is organised on a dual-track basis: contracts between the nursing college, the organisation responsible for practical training and the placement organisations ensure your training is properly supported.
You will need:
- A secondary school leaving certificate, an equivalent qualification or a successfully completed vocational training course
- German language skills at B2 level or above
- Good health (medical certificate)
- An extended criminal record check as proof of your reliability
- Ability to work in a team, good communication skills and emotional resilience.
To apply for a job at Heimerer, in addition to your cover letter and CV, you will need:
- a medical certificate
- the necessary proof of vaccination
- recognition of your foreign school qualifications by the relevant authority
- german language certificate (B2 level)
- for non-EU nationals: a valid residence and work permit.
Depending on your personal circumstances, you may be eligible for BAföG, an education voucher from the Jobcentre, or funding from a pension insurance provider. For employees in small and medium-sized enterprises, funding under the WeGebAU scheme may also be available, which helps to ease the financial burden on your employer whilst you are undergoing training. We would be happy to advise you on your individual funding options during a personal consultation.
