General nursing training lasts three years full-time and comprises at least 2,100 hours of theoretical instruction at a vocational school and at least 2,500 hours of practical training in nursing facilities. Under certain conditions, it is possible to shorten the programme, for example if you have completed nursing assistant training or have relevant professional experience.
The training allowance is generally based on the collective agreement for trainees in the public sector (TVAöD):
1st year: approx. £1,400 gross
2nd year: approx. €1,450 gross
3rd year: approx. £1,550 gross
Many institutions pay additional allowances, annual bonuses or travel allowances. The exact amount depends on the training company.
