Job description
As an occupational therapist, you support, accompany and empower people of all ages who are restricted or at risk of being restricted in their everyday abilities. Medical-therapeutic approaches should help to (re)achieve an improvement in independence and quality of life in everyday life through meaningful activities in the various areas of life. The field of activity of an occupational therapist is interesting, varied and covers all age groups. You will acquire special knowledge in the treatment of diseases from the paediatric, orthopaedic, psychiatric, neurological, geriatric and psychiatric fields, among others.

Occupational therapy is a holistic therapy and is firmly anchored in modern medicine. This makes it a profession with a secure future.
As an occupational therapist, you have a wide range of employment opportunities in clinics, support facilities, rehabilitation centres, workshops for the disabled or even in an outpatient occupational therapy practice.
You can extend your training with a bachelor's degree programme.
Occupational therapists can also take on leadership roles in healthcare management or set up their own practice.
Admission requirements
- Secondary school leaving certificate/secondary school leaving certificate or equivalent educational qualification or
- Secondary school leaving certificate/main school leaving certificate and successfully completed vocational training of at least two years' duration

At our school, you will complete theoretical and practical lessons. The average teaching time is 35 - 40 hours per week.
Practical training
The practical training takes place in blocks of several weeks in various occupational therapy areas, e.g. in rehabilitation centres, workshops for disabled people, surgeries, psychiatric clinics and retirement homes.

Conclusion
The examination is conducted at our state-approved vocational school under the supervision of the competent examination authority. It consists of a written, oral and practical part. After passing the examination, you will be authorised to use the professional title "occupational therapist " upon application.

The Heimerer schools in Leipzig, Munich and Torgau are members of the Verband Deutscher Ergotherapieschulen e.V. In addition, all of our locations are recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). WFOT recognition enables you to work abroad after your training.

Education voucher
