The podiatry training programme lasts two years on a full-time basis. During this time, you will complete around 2,000 hours of classroom-based learning at the vocational college, as well as 1,000 hours of practical training in partner organisations. Those wishing to undertake the training whilst working can also complete it on a part-time basis at Heimerer in Döbeln over a period of approximately 3 to 3.5 years. The training concludes with a state examination, which consists of a written, an oral and a practical component.
To be accepted onto the podiatry training programme, you generally need a secondary school leaving certificate (Realschulabschluss). Entry is also possible with a Hauptschulabschluss and at least two years of completed vocational training. In addition, a medical certificate confirming your fitness for the role is required. Previous experience in chiropody, beauty therapy or nursing can make it easier for you to get started. It is possible to shorten the training programme by applying to the relevant authority.
